Aged 18, Kahlo was nearly killed in a freak tram accident. her injuries, and the 30 operations she subsequently endured, left her bed-ridden and immobile for much of her short life. Though Frida was married to the famous Mexican muralist Diego Rivera, his last mistress, Dolores Olmedo, has said, ''It's public knowledge that she had more relationships with women than men.'' But, as Raquel Tibol, one of her biographers, explained, ''People close to Frida deny she was bisexual.''
