From the Milky Ocean to an Evolving Universe, at the Rubin Museum of Art in Manhattan through May 2010. 

The Known Universe takes viewers from the Himalayas through our atmosphere and the inky black of space to the afterglow of the Big Bang. Every star, planet, and quasar seen in the film is possible because of the world's most complete four-dimensional map of the universe, the Digital Universe Atlas that is maintained and updated by astrophysicists at the American Museum of Natural History. The new film, created by the Museum, is part of an exhibition, Visions of the Cosmos: From the Milky Ocean to an Evolving Universe, at the Rubin Museum of Art in Manhattan through May 2010.

Το βίντεο ξεκινάει από τα Ιμαλάϊα για να φτάσει στο απώτατο άκρο του Κόσμου και στην αρχή του, το Big Bang. Έναν Κόσμο που περιέχει περίπου 100 δισεκατομμύρια άστρα μόνο στον Γαλαξία μας, και κατά προσέγγιση 125 δισεκατομμύρια γαλαξίες (εκ των οποίων μόνο οι 3.000 είναι ορατοί). Έναν Κόσμο που έχει διάμετρο περίπου 40 δισεκατομμύρια έτη φωτός, ενώ το παρατηρήσιμο Σύμπαν είναι μόνο 13.7 δισ. έτη φωτός. Άρα μπορούμε να δούμε ένα απειροελάχιστο μόνο κομμάτι του Σύμπαντος. Πώς λοιπόν να πιστέψουμε ότι η Γη μας είναι ο μοναδικός τόπος με συνθήκες κατάλληλες για την ‘σπορά’ της όποιας ζωής;

Ας σημειωθεί πως το πιο πάνω βίντεο φτιάχτηκε από αστροφυσικούς του Αμερικανικού Μουσείου Φυσικής Ιστορίας στη Νέα Υόρκη.
