NOOB DEFINITION: Το noob ή n00b άρχισε να χρησιμοποιείται ως όρος στην «αργκό» του Διαδικτύου για τους νέους χρήστες του online gaming. Οι προχωρημένοι - καλοί παίκτες αποκαλούσαν noob τον παίκτη που δεν ήξερε ή που έκανε κάποιο λάθος και έφερνε την ομάδα σε κίνδυνο. Πάντα όμως, αποτελούσε ένα επικριτικό τίτλο.
Το noob ή n00b ή πολλές φορές ακόμα και nub, προέρχεται από την αγγλική λέξη newbie, που σημαίνει νεόφερτος. Για λόγους συντομίας στο IRC (chat), άρχισε να γράφεται ως "noob" ή "n00b" ή "nub" ή και "newb"
Το noob χρησιμοποιείται πλέον, όταν γίνεται αναφορά σε νέους χρήστες υπολογιστών και διαδικτύου. Δεν αποτελεί επικριτικό ή προσβλητικό τίτλο και πολλές φορές χρησιμοποιείται και από πολλούς χρήστες, σε διάφορες online συζητήσεις, για να δηλώσουν ότι δεν έχουν αρκετές γνώσεις πάνω στο αντικείμενο ή να ζητήσουν κάπου βοήθεια και παραπάνω πληροφορίες.
